If you already own <businessname>.com.au, you probably want to secure the matching .au domain to protect your brand. The registry has developed a transparent process that gives existing domain owners priority rights (first dibs).
All names that are already registered in .com.au, .net.au, .org.au, asn.au, id.au, edu.au, gov.au, and state-owned namespaces (vic.au, nsw.au) will be a part of the priority process.
In other words, existing domain owners will have priority (first dibs) to secure the matching .au domain for 180 days after launch. After September 20, 2022 all unclaimed names will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.
